Mary Slessor: Forward into Calabar (Christian Heroes: Then and Now)

Mary Slessor traded the mills of Scotland for the jungles of Calabar, Nigeria, where she became one of the most daring missionaries of her time.

With fiery red hair and an even fiercer determination, Mary ventured deep into territories where few Europeans dared to go, living among the people, learning their language, and challenging brutal practices like twin murder and human sacrifice. Her unconventional approach—adopting abandoned children, settling tribal disputes, and earning the respect of local chiefs—transformed entire communities and opened the door for the Gospel in one of Africa's most resistant regions.

This gripping biography reveals how a mill worker from humble beginnings became a legendary pioneer, proving that courage, compassion, and unwavering trust in God can change a nation.
